Microsoft has announced that on January 14th, 2020 extended support for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008R2 will end.

What does this mean?

The end of extended support means no security updates, compliance concerns, and the potential to be unable to perform updates to your current operating system versions. It may also expose your systems to security attacks, vulnerabilities or make your business out of compliance with industry regulations such as HIPAA, PCI Compliance and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What to do?

Due to these critical timelines, it is very important for your business to migrate to newer version of the client and server operating systems. Upgrading the OS and/or systems will take some time, so we recommend planning for this as soon as possible. Avoid business disruptions and use this as an opportunity to modernize your application stack, hardware, and networks.  Instead of upgrading the OS onto older hardware we recommend reviewing the age of existing hardware and take this opportunity to refresh to the newer systems (laptops, desktops, and servers) which run faster and more efficiently.  While you may save some dollars by upgrading just the software you may be stuck with slow computers since the newer operating system software require upgraded hardware in order to function as peak performance.

Don’t know how this will affect your business?

Don’t worry, Jeter IT Solutions can help advise your business on which upgrades are critical for you. We are offering a free assessment of your current Windows environment to determine what systems are in jeopardy and to help you formulate a road-map to navigate the upcoming changes as seamlessly and economically as possible.  Additionally, we are working with our partner manufacturers including Lenovo, Dell, and HP as well as our distributors to come up with volume discounts and upgrade strategies to meet our customers needs.
